Places You Must Go

The Gym (Now don’t roll your eyes…. Hear me out!)

Whether you are a new mom trying to establish a routine with your little one, or a well seasoned mom with a few years under your belt… this is for you! The one piece of advice I tell every mom is: Go to the gym!! It sounds so cliché, I know, but this is why… you keep your sanity! The gym is the one place I can go, to have up to two hours of ME time. No interruptions by my little ones with trivial needs. No I'ottas. I otta put in another load of laundry, I otta unload the dishwasher, I otta not strangle my husband for leaving his socks on the floor again…

I go to the Steve Nash-Fitness World in Kitsilano, Vancouver, (Broadway and Arbutus) and have found it to be my favourite. Kelli O'Neil is the assistant manager there and has been wonderful, even though she is busy with running the gym, she ensures that the daycare is well staffed and she is a star with the kids when she pops in for a visit. If you haven't got a pass to the Steve Nash – Fitness world, go see her and she will set you up!!

Now for the REAL reason I make the gym part of my ritual. As soon as I have checked in my kids, I put on my ipod, listen to music and pretend I am someone else. Someone else, without kids I mean. I can go lie on a mat and pretend I am stretching … or really stretch, and if that stretch takes 20 mins. then yippee!! I'll do some cardio, if I feel like it, or sit at the weight stations do some weights… or if I feel a little Vitamin D deprived, I'll go for a quick tan… The whole point is to quietly and mentally recharge, so that when I am handed back my kids, I am excited to see them.

I have included a quick little video to give you a glimpse of my secret oasis. This is my first video so bare with it….
